Finally!

So after having my computer stolen, I've finally gotten my replacement! I just discovered this video of Reba McEntire covering Beyonce's "If I Were A Boy" and it's awesome! She's amazing!

Beyonce Nostalgia

I remember watching this performance on TV. This was in 2005. This was after Beyonce's first solo album and after Destiny's Child's last album. Having been a fan of Destiny's Child all through high school, I was excited to see Beyonce perform a Tina song. I knew how much I loved watching her perform, but I was used to loving artists that others didn't. I specifically remember this performance because I remember thinking, this isn't like my other music fads. This was the moment I realized that Beyonce was bigger than big. She instantly commanded this room of people from all walks of life. Even though she was "impersonating" Tina Turner, this was no ordinary cover. She took on a persona on that stage that enabled her to demand the attention of every person in ear range. She creates a world that everyone wants to be a part of and when I was watching this performance in my parents' living room, I remember thinking, she is going to be around for a long time and I will be telling my children about her. Thus far, she has yet to disappoint!

Has Lady Gaga Gone Too Far?

Wow. Alright. How many times have we heard this same story? There was Elvis, Ozzy, Madonna, Britney, and now Gaga & Beyonce.

And I'm confused. Why is this video so bad? Is it because of the reference to rumors of Gaga being a man, because she's dancing without skimpy clothes on, because their are gay undertones (which obviously would cause everyone who watches it to become gay), because it trains children to become murders (albeit fashionable murders), because it creates child molesters, or because this kind of controversy is why this lady has a job?

Haven't we had racy videos for years? This is why my mom didn't let me watch MTV as a child (not that I always listened). And why can't you change channels real quick and then address it with your child instead of allowing him to watch the whole thing? Did she sit down with her son and watch porn while telling him the rest of the story? If he was exposed to things like this I hope he didn't turn out to be a child molester like the rest of the viewers! I'm just pissed that she made me somewhat agree with a Fox News Anchor.

Summing It All Up

How have I not yet blogged about Kanye, Taylor, and Beyonce?!

KANYE WEST
Well I've never liked Kanye West, the man; but dude can lay down some sick tracks! It doesn't get any better than Love Lockdown! I love that everyone isn't shocked though, because he pulls these stunts all the time. The thing I'm most angry about is that Kanye forced me to side with Taylor Swift, my arch nemesis.

TAYLOR SWIFT
I've NEVER, repeat NEVER liked Taylor Swift. I find her to be an annoying, immature person which is beside the point. SHE CAN'T SING LIVE!! She always sounds horrible. She has horrible pitch and makes ugly faces! She doesn't have good stage presence. The stage eats her up everytime. So I can't understand the obsession with her. I gotta give her credit that she can write some pretty awesome songs. If Carrie Underwood had recorded Love Story or You Belong With Me, they would have been even bigger hits and I would have purchased them! Put down the mic, pick up the pen, and hand over the music!

BEYONCE

Kanye was at least right about what he said, even though it was extremely rude and tacky. The video for Single Ladies was a freaking pop culture phenomenon. Look at how many people tried to recreate it! Probably 90% of Americans (I'd say 60% of people around the world due to the lack of tv's in some 3rd world countries) know what to do when they hear the words "All the Single Ladies". It was even on Ugly Betty (which I thought was hilarious!). I've never even seen Taylor's video and in fact can't remember which one it was that won. Either way, Beyonce could not have looked like more of a lady when she accepted her (more important) award for Video of the Year. I was very touched how she related her experience at the age of 17 in Destiny's Child to Taylor's that night (except Destiny's child could SING). All in all I think it worked out well for her. Although, maybe Beyonce should be mad at Kanye because she had to give up her moment in the spotlight in order to give back Taylor's.

And now, the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama:
